As of last Wednesday, October 9, significant progress has been made on the Wheeling Gateway Center project, with Raze Construction officially beginning the demolition of the building's northwest side. So far, approximately 20% of the structure has been successfully removed. The demolition team is strategically using the debris to create a stable foundation for positioning heavy machinery deeper into the site. This method allows the crew to extend their reach and operate with greater precision as they navigate through the structure.
In the coming days, the project will reach a major milestone as the crew prepares to demolish the section of the building closest to the bridge pier and the iconic tower at 10th Street. This phase is particularly complex due to the proximity of these structures, requiring careful planning and coordination to ensure the demolition proceeds safely and efficiently.
Once the demolition of the section near 10th Street is complete, the team will shift their focus eastward, continuing their work toward Main Street. This eastward progression will mark a significant step forward in the overall redevelopment of the site, paving the way for future phases of construction. The community can expect visible changes in the landscape as the project advances, further contributing to the transformation of the area.
