OLD BROOKLYN, CLEVELAND, OH (January 20th, 2025) – Pearl Road United Methodist Church (PRUMC), a historic cornerstone of faith and community in the Old Brooklyn neighborhood for over 200 years, will be contributing their property and current building to the Old Brooklyn Community Development Corporation’s (OBCDC) Memphis & Pearl transformative real estate development plan.  With a total project estimate of nearly $30,000,000, this economic development initiative marks one of Old Brooklyn’s most significant investments in over 50 years.

In partnership with the OBCDC, PRUMC is announcing the launch of an innovative, digital community engagement platform to help shape the future of the community by participating in a short digital survey housed on the platform, so that the appropriate public amenities, community programs, and events can be housed in the new development.

The platform provides users the opportunity to upload inspirational photos of what they would like to experience in the future development both inside and outside the PRUMC building.  Users can like and comment on their favorite photos and provide the design team direct input on how to best develop the future spaces.

“We are proud of our 200-year legacy of serving the Old Brooklyn Community, and this transformative development provides our congregation the opportunity to provide the top experiences that the community is seeking in the heart of the Old Brooklyn neighborhood,” said Tom Hites, Trustee of the Pearl Road United Methodist Church.

Throughout the development, the Memphis & Pearl project team have placed the voices of the Old Brooklyn neighborhood at the heart of its planning process, gathering input from residents every step of the way. The most recent of these efforts was conducted in November of 2024, when OBCDC sought community members’ feedback on the team’s performance and what types of impacts they’d like to see result from the overall development.

Now, PRUMC continues this process by asking the community to share their ideas for how its future space can best contribute to the neighborhood’s needs, aspirations, and vibrancy.

"This is another chance for our community to come together and to help shape the future of our neighborhood.  We want our building to have a positive impact both today and for many years to come," said Frank Pillari, Treasurer of the Pearl Road United Methodist Church.

All members of PRUMC, community members of Old Brooklyn and those in the Greater Cleveland area are encouraged to participate in this survey to share their ideas on what types of programming would best serve Old Brooklyn’s current and future needs.

To take the survey and ensure your voice is heard, visit memphisandpearl.tippingpointdev.com. Join PRUMC and the Memphis & Pearl project team in building a future that reflects the spirit of the Old Brooklyn community.

The survey is expected to remain open until Valentine’s Day on February 14th, and results will be publicized on OBCDC, PRUMC and Tipping Point websites and social media.
