Memphis & Pearl Redevelopment to Transform Old Brooklyn Neighborhood

A transformative project is set to revitalize the intersection of Memphis Avenue and Pearl Road in Cleveland's Old Brooklyn neighborhood. Approved by the City Planning Commission, this redevelopment will replace four deteriorating historic buildings with a six-story mixed-use structure, offering 74 mid-level apartments, community spaces, and retail opportunities.

Spearheaded by the Old Brooklyn Community Development Corp. (OBCDC) and designed by Pittsburgh-based Desmone Architects, the project preserves the iconic 1903 St. Luke Church, repurposing it for commercial use, potentially as a craft brewery. Significant architectural features, such as stained-glass windows, will be salvaged.

The $2 million Brownfield grant-funded effort aims to create a dense, walkable district along a major transit corridor, aligning with planned public transit upgrades. Expected to breathe new life into Old Brooklyn, the development combines historic preservation with modern design, paving the way for future growth in the area.
